For new moms who have just learned they are pregnant, you may feel equally excited and worried, right? Don't worry, because pregnancy is a significant change for every woman. No surprise that many moms feel this way. Today, 4 useful ways are introduced to take care of your pregnancy to ensure safety and high quality, helping new moms ease their worries and smoothly go through this pregnancy. For any moms experiencing morning sickness, we also have some "tips to deal with morning sickness and prepare yourself to handle it" to share with you.

  1. Prenatal Care is the Most Important
Once you know you are pregnant, you should quickly go for prenatal care so that the doctor can assess your condition and help plan your care from pregnancy through to delivery. Most expecting mothers will undergo a thorough physical examination, pregnancy check-up, or ultrasound and have the opportunity to ask the doctor any questions. Additionally, they will receive safe iron supplements throughout the pregnancy. Even if common pregnancy issues are detected, such as gestational diabetes, regular prenatal care will help mitigate the severity of these problems under the doctor’s supervision.
  2. Pay Attention to Diet
Eating nutritious food is essential for a quality pregnancy, as what the mother consumes helps nourish both her and the baby. Therefore, choosing the right foods is crucial. First, expectant mothers should eat a balanced diet that includes all five food groups and take iron supplements regularly. Avoid foods that are extremely sweet, such as ripe sweet fruits and sugary drinks. Increase the intake of meats and green leafy vegetables, as these are often under-consumed by Thais. Foods not recommended during pregnancy include raw fish, fresh vegetables, and fermented foods, as the immune system of pregnant women is weakened, making them more susceptible to illnesses like diarrhea. Additionally, it is advisable to control weight gain during pregnancy to about 0.5 kilograms per week, or even less if the mother is overweight or obese before becoming pregnant.
  3. Exercise Properly and Regularly
Many people misunderstand about exercise during pregnancy. In fact, the basic principle is simple: pregnant women can exercise just as they did before pregnancy, but they need to be more cautious about injuries or falls. For example, if a mother was used to swimming regularly, she can continue swimming; if she practiced yoga, she can keep doing yoga, though some poses may need to be modified. For those who were not regularly exercising before pregnancy, I recommend walking as the primary form of exercise. This can include walking around the house, taking strolls around the neighborhood, or even leisurely walking in an air-conditioned mall. However, some conditions during pregnancy may require a doctor’s consultation before exercising, such as, if you are expecting twins, have a low-lying placenta, or have a condition like amniotic fluid leakage.
  4. Create an Environment that Promotes Good Mental Health
As mentioned earlier, pregnancy is a significant change for new moms. Maintaining good mental health can help reduce stress during pregnancy and promote a happy pregnancy experience. Creating a positive environment involves support from key family members, particularly the husband, who can help bring small moments of joy to the new mom. This can include playing soft, pleasant music, providing nutritious food, assisting with small activities around the house, taking her on outings, or even accompanying her to prenatal check-ups. All these actions help create a sense of happiness that can also be felt by the little one in the womb.

Pregnancy is not as scary as it might seem. I hope the 4 tips above serve as simple advice that new moms and their families can easily follow. I want to encourage all moms to have a joyful pregnancy experience, and I wish for the little ones in the womb to be strong and healthy.
